Spectators Guide to Rugby

“Soccer is a gentlemen’s game played by hooligans, and Rugby is a hooligans’ game played by gentlemen.” - Winston Churchill

Rugby Union, referred to as Rugby, is a contact sport typically played with teams of 15 (with 8 substitutions) in which an oval ball is progressed on a field, commonly called a “pitch.”

The best way to learn more about the sport is by attending a rugby match!  There is a close-knit community of men's and women's rugby teams in New Orleans including a professional Major League Rugby team, the NOLA Gold.

If interested in attending one of our matches, please check out our Facebook page!

We also host an annual free Rugby 101 session where you can come out and try the sport out! The 101 focuses on some of the basic rules and does not require any prior knowledge or equipment to participate.  Follow us on our social media to stay up to date on our events and reach out through any of our social media or email for more information on the 101 or our schedule. Hope to see you at the pitch!
